John Scott (Tournament Director 1996-2002)
The Honorary President of the Tournament Jim Keight OBE JP and members of the Tournament's Management Board dedicate this page to the memory of the late John Scott who was fondly known to many people from all over the world. John sadly died in September 2002 after a short illness.
One of John's many contributions in life was to pick up the gauntlet from the successful Four Nations Tournament in Halewood and to develop it into the Merseyside International Youth Football Festival back in 1996. Through John's commitment, energy and foresight the Tournament developed year after year and is now recognised as one of the premier soccer Tournaments in the .
John was able to fulfil his passion for football by managing this successful tournament and today his pride and commitment is evident as we carry on with his ambitions in the hope that we can realise his dream to create an atmosphere of friendship and support for the many local, national and international players who take part in the Tournament - just simply to see smiles on their faces. John's working background was very much community-focussed working for Knowsley Council as the Deputy Manager of Huyton Leisure Centre in 1974, before moving to the Community and Youth Service where he helped young people from all walks of life to achieve their goals and help them develop into productive members of the community.
Our intention this year is to name the Under 18's section of the Tournament - the John Scott Memorial Championship. We feel that this age group is appropriate as John was also instrumental in developing the Dallas Cup Programme, in which youngsters from Knowsley were given the opportunity to compete in an international Tournament.
John we feel will have an everlasting impact on youth football within the Merseyside area and this we hope will give his wife, Bridget, some consolation and courage, in the knowledge that John had a positive effect on many youngsters lives.
If you knew John and would like to add to this memorial page please contact the Tournament Office.
